Oil and Fuel Absorbent Booms

Oil absorbent booms are used to contain spills of oil, fuel, diesel, petrol and hydrocarbons. The boom material repels water, making them ideal for absorbing hydrocarbon spills in wet areas or outdoors.

Hydrocarbon absorbent booms (also known as socks) are available in a variety of sizes, making them ideal for creating a barrier when managing oil and fuel spills.

Oil and fuel absorbents are colour-coded white for quick identification. They are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and this makes them suitable for hydrocarbon spills in lakes, rivers, sumps, ponds, drains or in wet weather.

Notes:

Actual absorbent capacity will vary depending on the liquid viscosity, specific gravity and temperature of the spill. Oil and fuel absorbents are made from polypropylene (which has a high absorbent capacity). Booms can absorb up to 20x their own weight in liquid by encapsulating the liquid within the polypropylene’s fine fibres.
