Oil and fuel absorbents are colour-coded white for quick identification. They are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and this makes them suitable for hydrocarbon spills in environments such as lakes, rivers, sumps, ponds, drains, or in wet weather.

Actual absorbent capacity will vary depending on the liquid viscosity, specific gravity and temperature of the spill. Oil and fuel absorbents are made from polypropylene (which has a high absorbent capacity). Poly absorbents can absorb up to 20x their own weight in liquid by encapsulating the liquid within the polypropylene’s fine fibres.
