Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gas bottle storage cage used for?

Gas bottle storage cages are designed to safely store and secure gas cylinders, reducing the risk of damage, tampering, and unauthorised access. They also help organise cylinders on-site and support safe handling and compliance with workplace safety requirements.

Are gas cylinders required to be stored in cages in Australia?

Australian safety regulations and standards generally require gas cylinders to be stored securely, upright, and protected from damage or unauthorised access. While specific requirements depend on the gas type and site conditions, storage cages are commonly used to meet these obligations.

What is the difference between LPG and high-pressure gas cages?

LPG cages are typically designed for storing liquefied petroleum gas cylinders and may include features suited to flammable gas storage. High-pressure gas cages are used for gases stored under pressure, such as oxygen or nitrogen, and may require different segregation and safety considerations depending on the gas type.

Do gas cages need ventilation?

Yes — adequate ventilation is essential to prevent the build-up of gases and reduce the risk of fire or asphyxiation. Most gas storage cages are designed with open mesh or ventilated panels to allow airflow while maintaining security.

Are forklift gas bottle cages different from standard cages?

Forklift gas bottle cages are typically designed for smaller LPG cylinders used in material handling equipment. They are often more compact and may be configured for easy access and frequent cylinder changeover compared to larger, general-purpose storage cages.

Do gas storage cages need to be locked?

In most cases, yes — gas cages should be secured to prevent unauthorised access, tampering, or theft. Lockable doors are a common feature and help support safe storage practices and compliance with site safety procedures.
