Oil and fuel absorbents are colour-coded white for quick identification. They're hydrophobic, meaning they repel water and this makes them suitable for hydrocarbon spills in wet environments such as lakes, rivers, sumps, ponds and drains, or in wet weather.

Actual absorbent capacity will vary depending on the liquid viscosity, specific gravity and temperature of the spill. Oil and fuel absorbents are made from polypropylene (which has a high absorbent capacity). Pads can absorb up to 20x their own weight in liquid by encapsulating the liquid within the polypropylene’s fine fibres.
